Competition Time

In order to keep my creative juices flowing I decided why not enter a competition, I love designing and having a set brief makes it all the more challenging... Here is my entry for Make it Design Home Edition for Urban Outfitters, fingers crossed its a strong entry...

My inspiration was from my final major project where I used tassles as detail, and using my own photography created a print design. Added some stripes (ribbon) to the design, as I love ribbon and texture on bedding personally. I hope you like.

Settling in

Heyy, so last time I wrote a post I was all nervous about moving to London and starting my internship, well second week in and I am absolutely loving it! I have learnt so much already about a fashion business that I didn't know before and its made me realise it will be worth it in the end...

However, my future career... I still don't know what I want to do, but that will come with time.

Just a few key words that sum up my last two weeks and a couple of photos from todays outfit... I don't do selfies, I just like texture

And So A Journey Begins...

Hello! I have completely neglected my blog, but guess what, I decided I'm back and I am going to be a little bit more interesting this time... 

My last post was about preparing for New Designers 2013 and I can tell you, a lot has happened since then. I have had a really good summer, busy with working and seeing all my favourite people. And of course, graduating in July! I can't even believe I am a Graduate if I'm honest, one minute I was living the student life, the next a working individual. 

...but this is where it gets exciting, tomorrow Monday 2nd September I will be starting an internship in London! I never thought I would be saying that after summer, but here I am.. and I would like to share this experience with you.. and the things that interest me. I might even do a couple of selfies, because that's what you do, right? :)

Catch up time..!

Hello, I apologise for the lack of posts, its been far too long! 2 months, time to do catch up.. There's so much to tell!

So.. I had just finished designing my final print designs and sent them to fabpad on my last post, which I would just like to mention are very reliable and my prints came out absolutely lush!

The chosen fabric for my collection was 100% Silk Chiffon, I have never used this before now and I can't lie to you, it wasn't easy to sew with. However, I handled it very well and I will post development photos and my final collection shortly...

It's been awhile, what have I been up to..?

Since I had a hand-in at the end of March I have been working on my Final Collection. I sent off my prints for digital printing last week which I will be receiving by the end of this week! So excited !!
Here are a few of my final print designs... 
The first 3 ideas will be used on 3 of my garments.. Can't wait to see them on fabric!

Drawing from inspiration

Today I decided to do some drawing in relation to the lampshade research I collected last week to come up with some ideas for digital prints.. Here are a few images to show my train of thought...

Think I might add some ink to make them a bit more interesting.. keep checking for updates..

Designing a website!

As I mentioned in a previous post, one of my units at University is to put together a portfolio of work for potential employers and also to promote my work as a designer...

So, the other day I started designing my own website to showcase my work, I feel more like a professional it's brilliant!

As well as the portfolio I have to put together I have been trying to design my digital prints so that they can be sent off for printing.. I came up with a quick random idea today when I found an photo taken of fabric through glass, it distorted the image creating something interesting... I then edited it slightly in Photoshop to make it even more blurry...

If it hurts your eyes.. that's a good thing

As part of a unit at Uni, I have to put together a CV, covering letter, portfolio and other ways of promoting myself.. The last few days I have been finalising my CV, business cards and postcard ideas and putting my personality into my work has been quite enjoyable.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been fabric sourcing and finding relevant components for my final collection..
I have been trying to find fabric that is difficult to look at and creates that 'blurry' effect to fit well with my theme

New Designers 2013

Studying at the University of Portsmouth, I also have the brilliant opportunity to take part in the New Designers Show in June! I went to a meeting yesterday in London with 5 other students from my University to find out more about our stand and the show in general..

It's all very exciting, this means more fundraising events... such as Cake sales in Eldon Building

Inspiration

As I have been working on my final collection lately, had a little brainwave and decided to expand my idea of Light and light bulbs and look at lampshades as well... 

The light bulb will inspire my garment shapes, the shades and stands will inspire and revitalise my prints.

So I found a little shop in Portsmouth thanks to a friend for the recommendation, and took some photos for inspiration..
